Product Description
When seventeen-year-old T. J. Parsell held up the local Photo Mat with a toy gun, he was sentenced to four and a half to fifteen years in prison. The first night of his term, four older inmates drugged Parsell and took turns raping him. When they were through, they flipped a coin to decide who would “own” him. Forced to remain silent about his rape by a convict code among inmates (one in which informers are murdered), Parsell’s experience that first night haunted hi… More >>

  • This book is a sad young man’s version of life in the system. He was a weak person who unfortunately earns himself a prison sentence and is surprised at the monstrosities that go on ‘behind the wall’ so to speak. Why is he claiming to be a boy? This man wasn’t a 5, 10, 15 years old. He was 17. He wasn’t a child any longer…he just acted like one. I wouldn’t suggest anyone waste their time on reading this novel.

  • One fast read is plenty for this book.

I completed it in one weekend easily, and wondered if I could have used my time better raking leaves or cleaning gutters.

The story, apparently true, is not that compelling and if I hadn’t purchased the book already and had begun it at Borders or another book store; I’d most likely not bought it.

We all have our opinions of everything-I wanted more graphic sex. That’s why I buy those types of books.

  • This book bothered me that this man was attacked and raped, and then became friends with his attackers and even a lover and falls in love with one of them. He also wants to get transferred back to the prison where these men are. Then later in life thinks of this man again. This does not say to me that this man was as appalled about what happened to him to then become an advocate about prison rape and stopping it. If anyone out there has ever been raped as he claims he was and how brutal it was they know that it is hard to read then how in love with one of them he becomes, and how he can even hold a conversation with the people who did this. I got some slack for what I wrote before about it, but found out the author, Avid Reader, is leaving comments on his own book reviews, and if you dont like it, then he will call you names! That also tells me that something is not right with him. I said something before about him being a gay man, which is never mentioned in the jacket of the story, I never meant that because he was gay then it was fine what happened to him, I meant that due to him being gay that the relationships he then goes on to have in prison make me wonder about how bad he really was attacked. No one knows but him, and the men who did it, but as I explained above it is not normal for a victim to then become friends and lovers with people who hurt you. It also is a story from a gay mans perspective of prison which is different then a straight mans or womans. I also took a star away since the author feels the need to not only read what people think about this book, but reply as not the author, but a “person just commenting” Again it is disturbing. There are other books out there about life in prison, and what it is really like. Much better books that give you the full prison life, and not somthing that really does not add up in my opinion. There is a reason it is called hard time!! I think the people who gave this book a good review has never known anyone who was or is in prison, nor has ever themselves been a victim of a hideous attack. Or were put up to it by the author, since he seems to have so much fun makeing things seem as they are not. This to me is not a true tale, and I am sure is something like James Frey’s book “A Million Little Pieces” Also, the 5 people who didnt find this review helpful are all from the author as well. He also took it upon himself to find all my reviews unhelpful i had posted so far! That should tell you something about a persons state of mine!

  • It is amazing that a person could go through so much and be innocent in a seemingly never ending way. The book is fascinating in it’s intimate details. The authors thoughts throughout what would have been and unimaginable ordeal for a straight guy but was seemingly enjoyable or tolerable for long periods of time, because the victim was gay, are incredible.
